Spring Fling 2010!

With both girls in school now it’s extra-important the we hit Spring Fling up at Tuckahoe. They spent as much time chatting up friends as they spent playing games. A highlight every year is the row of Inflatables they roll out every year. They have a couple of moon bounces so the big kids don’t stomp the little ones, a couple of obstacle courses, and new this year was a velcro wall.

4th Grade Recorder Concert

I have to tell you, I love watching these kids on stage. It’s about the darn cutest thing going. Here’s Emma on her way in.

And here is the big finale:

The big finale

Sunshine summertime preview

We had some incredible weather last weekend so I asked the kids to pick a park to walk to. They chose the one that was a mile away, and off we walked.

The old pro.

It took them about half a mile to change their mind about the walking, but we were already halfway so they toughed it out. And then they had some fun.

The top of the top.

Bicycle Adventures

Emma and I took advantage of some surprise sunshine and hit some roads neither of us had been on. It was an adventure on a very local scale. We live in an older (ca. 1950′s) suburban neighborhood so there are some crazy-looking houses, either through addition or rebuilding. Emma was into the sights:

There were also a lot of smiles:

Nutzy is fit.

Stella and Nutzy

There was a surprise guest at the science fair, Nutzy the squirrel. He’s the beloved mascot of our new local AA baseball team, The Flying Squirrels.

Science Fair-est of them all!

Science Fair!

Emma’s project was about illustrating the amount of fat in the favorite foods of her classmates. She made up a survey form from which collected data, graphed it all out, and then used tofu to visualize show how much fat was in a serving of each as compared to the recommended daily allowance for kids. I think she had some fun doing it and I know we all had a good time seeing her project on display alongside all of the other kids’.

hey look! more snow!

Emma and Maggie had some fun playing “Mt .Everest” on a giant pile of snow left from our street getting plowed. The also spent some time slogging through the knee-high-to-them snow on our back porch.

Stella took time to hydrate with a snowy snack. She’s a smarty.

So much snow!

The family that trudges through snow together....

We took the kids and some sleds out to Cheswick Park to see if we could get a good sliding spot. We had some laughs, for sure, but mostly we guaranteed that we would spend the rest of the day inside.

Regular season swim team finale

Here’s Emma at the turn of her 100yd backstroke from this morning’s meet (cool capture via Quadcamera). This was her first wintertime swim team season and she made a lot of progress from October until now. There is still room to improve but she’s a strong, confident swimmer and we think she’s set up for some really fast swimming over the summer and next winter. It really helps that she has a couple of her close friends on the team. They make it a lot easier to commit the time.

100 Backstroke turn.
